As a wedding photographer who has spent the last decade shooting love stories all across Idaho—from the iconic peaks of Sun Valley to the serene shores of Coeur d’Alene—I’ve had the honor of capturing weddings in some truly breathtaking places. But if there’s one mountain venue that stands out time and time again, it’s Tamarack Resort.
Nestled in the heart of the forest near Donnelly, Tamarack feels like one of Idaho’s best-kept secrets. I’ve shot weddings here in every season, and every time I come back, I’m reminded why it’s one of my all-time favorite places for a mountain destination wedding. If you’re dreaming of a celebration that feels like an escape into nature without sacrificing comfort, Tamarack is a dream.
First off, the team at Tamarack is incredible. As a photographer, I work closely with coordinators and venue staff, and the folks here are truly next-level accommodating. They’re pros at managing events and making sure everything runs smoothly, which gives couples (and vendors like me!) so much peace of mind. They offer in-house catering, which is not only delicious but makes planning so much easier. And with multiple venue spaces on the property—from ceremony sites to reception halls—they make it simple to host your full wedding weekend in one place.
What I love most is how Tamarack feels like a hidden gem. It’s tucked back from the main road, completely surrounded by tall pines and mountain views. When you’re here, you feel worlds away from everything else. It’s peaceful, quiet, and insanely photogenic. Whether it’s an intimate forest ceremony or golden hour portraits near the lake, the backdrops are absolutely unreal.
One of the things that makes Tamarack extra special is how perfect it is for hosting your entire crew. The village has tons of lodging options for friends and family—everything from cozy condos to luxurious townhomes. No need for shuttle buses or hotel blocks an hour away. Everyone’s right there, which keeps the vibe fun, connected, and super convenient.
Plus, there’s no shortage of things to do. Tamarack is an all-season resort, so depending on the time of year, your guests can enjoy mountain biking, hiking, golfing, skiing, snowboarding, boating, jet skiing, paddleboarding, fishing—you name it. It’s not just a wedding, it’s a vacation for your whole crew.
Another bonus? It’s surprisingly easy to get to. Just fly into Boise and take a scenic two-hour drive along the Payette River. It’s one of my favorite drives in Idaho—windy roads, river views, and plenty of places to stop for a coffee or snack along the way.
Tamarack is the kind of place where you can spend the whole week if you want to. I’ve seen couples turn their weddings into full-blown experiences with a welcome dinner in the village, pool parties, lake days, rehearsal dinners under the stars, and even day-after brunches on the beach. There’s space and opportunity for all of it. It’s like summer camp for grown-ups—except way more beautiful, way more fun, and with much better food.
If you’re looking for a venue where you can truly create a weekend (or week!) full of memories, Tamarack Resort might just be your perfect match. As a photographer who’s been lucky enough to shoot weddings all over Idaho, I can honestly say this place is something special. The views, the vibe, and the people—everything just clicks.
Thinking about getting married at Tamarack? I’d love to chat and share more tips and ideas to make the most of it. Trust me—it’s one of those places where magic happens.
