After 10 years in the wedding industry, I have learned a thing or two about weddings. I have become an expert at direction, being a fly on the wall, quick on my feet and reading the room. I can tell when a couple needs to be given a little direction or prefers to have space and flow. I can anticipate when a cool candid moment is about to happen and where to be at the right time. I have shot dozens of weddings in Idaho and the surrounding areas, I’ve also traveled over seas for elopements and weddings. Everything from a two person elopement on a helicopter, to a 300 person wedding with multiple photographers. I have experienced so many wonderful moments, I feel so lucky to be surrounded by so much energetic love and friendship. I know I haven’t seen it all, which is why I love being a photographer, there is always more to learn, but I have gathered some notes over the years that ensure a smooth wedding process. Read on, friend.
I am sure you don’t want a stranger with you, your friends and family all day on one of the biggest days of your life. We’ll start by getting to know each other a bit in a very casual way, maybe even do an engagement session to spend time together. Either way, we will start by looking through more photos together, including a full gallery and answering any questions you may have.
Every single person is unique which means no two weddings are the same. Once we get to know each other a bit over the phone or zoom, I will send out a tailored proposal thats all about you! We will add in the things you love and need like a second photographer, welcome dinner, album, prints, social media BTS, a super 8 film video, more film photography, polaroids… Nothing cookie cutter here, everything will be designed to fit your wedding style and expectations. Feel free to send over a Pinterest board, connect me with your planner, and have as much or little communication in the planning process to make your life easy. From there, we can plan out a detailed timeline and shot list together. I love your ideas and collaboration, with both of us, we will carve your full vision with a plan A and B.
I’ve made The Art of Observing my daily practice. Understanding the universe we live in, the plants, animals, rivers, sky and space fascinates me. Spending time learning about this along with the study of human behavior and psychology has impacted my photography greatly. Observing as a human experiencing earth shapes my vision into the bigger picture. The study of human body language IS what a photograph is. Along with light and scenery, you’ve got a recipe for magic.
Posing feels stuffy and doesn’t highlight a couple at their authentic selves. In order to keep it really natural and fluid by directing a few actions and photograph the movement. For the couple and guests both. I love to document the actual day and events. I was a newspaper photographer for about 5 years. That gave me the know how to wait for the right moment and where to be in order to get the real moments that never feel forced.
After the photos have been taken and the dresses are stored away, the best part is about to arrive. The delivery of the photos is my absolute favorite part because it is the only thing left from the event. Along with your eternal love, of course. You are busy embarking on this new chapter in your lives, building your dreams and you will always have these photos to mark the start of that. An heirloom to show your grandkids and a legacy left to live on.
Enjoy reminiscing every anniversary to see all of the amazing photos of your friends and family together having fun, the intimate and romantic shots of you as a newly wed couple, the emotion, the pulse of the party, the breathtaking scenery and documented design details, and moments you didn’t even know happened.
Every part of the day documented in an artistic way with a magazine editorial flair that is timeless so you can be proud to share it for a lifetime and beyond. Photographs you are excited to display around your home and give for Christmas gifts to the parents. Photographs you can create a date night around to open a bottle of champagne on your anniversary and talk about the hundreds of stories within those photographs. It is only one day of your life and something you’ve dreamt about since you were a kid. Life is short, people are important, and it’s really about that.
